Crafty Ladies

Yesterday morning we had a “craft day” at my friend Amber’s house. She’s actually one of my neighbors and lives right across the road from us. So, I only had to drag my supplies about 100 ft!

My mom happens to be visiting this week so it was nice to be able to get away and be with friends for the day without chasing a toddler!

The first important thing about a craft day is the food! Amber made the CUTEST and TASTIEST sausage/egg pockets. They were heart-shaped! That girl is amazing!

The Krispie Kreme donuts were so tempting…

Yummy (virgin) mimosas w/ frozen fruit…there were three crafty pregnant ladies there.

We worked all morning until lunchtime and on…I made Curry Chicken Salad sandwiches, Liz made some Addictive Corn Dip, and black bean hummus, and Jen brought fresh veggies. I STUFFED myself!

Amelia made an amazing buttermilk pie…

Now, on to the crafts! One of the many things (friends, conversation with lovely ladies and fellow art teachers, making stuff, and “that’s what she said” jokes) I love about craft days is not having to have my conceptual hat on. I can just make stuff.

My craft happened to be a painted name sign for a teacher at school; she likes ladybugs…

The first was an encaustic painting. I am convinced I’m going to order some encaustic trays for my classroom…

Whitney, due with a baby girl in October, made a plush cube too. This was her FIRST attempt at sewing and she did an amazing job!

Such fun! I wish we could do this once a month!

I am just not a good blogger. I wish I were the type that updated everyday.

Here are a few photos of Davis from lately…

We spent Memorial Day weekend at the lakehouse on Table Rock. Since we couldn’t get the boat or the jet skis out because of flooding, Davis swam in a wading pool and ran through the sprinklers.

Baw-faw (grandpa) found some turtles on the side of the road. He brought them home for Davis to feed and let go near the water. In the photo above Davis had just eaten a bite of a “Carla’s Knarly” cinnamon roll from the Baxter Country Store. These things are literally bigger than your head and will feed a dozen. So good.

Davis loves Monica and Uncle Brent! They live in Omaha and came down for the weekend.

This weekend we came to Springfield so that I could take my computer assessments for National Board Certification. I am hopefully finished after a long two years of working on it! This means no more studying and instead reading books for pleasure and painting again! (During Davis’ naptime that is!) This pic cracks me up because my father-in-law photo bombed it! He has a habit of doing that! It’s always funny though.(I just noticed that hipstamatic placed it’s “vintage distressed”look right on my arm!)

Swimming is going to be a huge part of our summer! It’s a great way to get a toddler really nice and sleepy to take a really long nap! I need naps too since I’m growing another human right now, so keeping Davis busy has been really important.

He has loved swimming this year. He was still too little last year for floaties and pool toy; but this year is much different. He can move around the pool without assistance and has much more fun this time.

Oh, the many faces/moods of Davis! The one on the left was his “monster face” that he gives me when he’s not happy. I had just told him that we had to go in because it was lightning. And the one on the right was 1/2 a second later when I said he could have some chocolate milk!

Later when the sun came out we went at it again!

I am posting this flyer for a high school friend of mine. Her brother, Adam Jacob Blanchard, has been missing since February 5, 2011.

I cannot imagine the fear and anxiety that my friend and her family are going through. There are only a small handful of people that read my blog, but who knows, someone might stumble across it and recognize his face.

These snow days have been overall pretty non-productive. I can only do so much with National Boards when I can’t be in my classroom. So, I took a few of Davis’ nap times to work on some handmade things.

An unconventional wreath for my lil' sis' baby shower.

These little hand-stitched cards I am soooo excited about. My art-teacher/crafter friend Jen put together a Valentine exchange between four crafty people; one being myself; where we make three handmade Valentines and send them to each person. Here is the outcome of mine:

Thank God for Playdates

We were starting to go stir-crazy in the house; when my friend Carri called this morning and said she and her son Kyler were coming over to play! Thank goodness! Davis needed a change of scenery, so they came over for a couple of hours. We had a nice time talking, and the boys always have a great time playing together.

And lots of it…here are some pics from the snow we’ve been digging out of from the last few days. I don’t ever remember seeing this much snow. I do remember getting about 12″ of snow when I was young; about 9 or so. My dad woke us up to see it, and I seem to remember falling in it. But in my memory I’m wearing this little pink silk nightgown. I doubt very seriously my dad would have let me do that. But who knows???

I think it may be more like 18"...I think the ruler was on a stepping stone.

Here's Ryan sweeping a path for his jeep. A shovel would have been nice, but this city is fresh out. Not like we could've driven to get one anyway.

Yes, I asked him to please fall backward into the snow. He loves me enough to humor me.

It was so incredibly cold, and probably a stupid move since I have a respiratory infection...but I couldn't resist playing in it!

Falling Off the Wagon

I’ve already semi-ruined one of my New Years Resolutions of blogging more.

Here’s a sample of what’s been going on lately with us:

We’ve had a few really nice days this month. This was a Saturday a couple of weeks ago; we spent the whole day outside. So nice!

And now, characteristic of Arkansas weather, we are in the throes of a VERY nice weekend. 73 degrees yesterday, and 60 degrees today. But, we are in for another winter storm next week. Where are you Spring???
